Which VR Headset Should I get?
At Construct Arcade we test with many different VR headsets. The best VR headset is very dependent on your needs and budget as well as the phone or PC you own, though. Find out which one you should get down below:
Oculus Quest (Amazon)
From input and VR-quality, this headset is very comparable to the Oculus Rift, though performance wise, the hardware inside will not hold up with a desktop PC and probably not with a really high- end smartphone.
This is a standalone headset. If you don’t have a VR ready phone or computer, this will get you the VR experience with the best quality to price ratio.
Quality: Mid- to High-End
Price: $ 399
Oculus GO (Amazon)
This is a standalone headset. If you don’t have a VR ready phone or computer, this will get you the VR experience with the best quality to price ratio. The GearVR is pretty similar, if you already own a high-end Samsung Phone, make sure to check that out.
Price: $ 199
Samsung Gear VR (Amazon)
This is a mobile headset. It requires a Samsung Galaxy S6 or better. If you already own such a smartphone, this will get you a very cheap but great VR device. We recommend getting the controller, though, as it allows for way more interaction in VR. If you do not own the phone, we recommend the Oculus GO instead.
Price: $ 90 (Currently discounted from $ 129.99)
Google Daydream View (Amazon)
This is a mobile headset. It requires a daydream ready phone, of which you can find a list here.
If you already own the phone, this will get you a cheap and decent VR experience. We recommend it for getting your hands wet, but Oculus GO or Gear VR are definitely the minimum quality you will want for regular use. If you do not own the phone, we recommend the Oculus GO instead, otherwise a Google Cardboard may suffice for a start.
Quality: Low to Mid-Range
Price: $ 59.49
Google Cardboard (Amazon)
This is a mobile headset. It requires a phone that is compatible with the Google Cardboard App (simply try installing it on your phone). This is the cheapest, but also the lowest quality VR experience you can get. If you don’t like it, don’t give up on VR, it is not representative. Apart from that, it is super cool to be able to have any VR experience for the price of two pizzas.
While we link the official version, there are many copies out there. Make sure, though, that the headset has a button, as that makes interaction way easier.
Price: $ 15.00 (Mind potential shipping cost!)
