Ever since its initial “preview” release in October 2018 (almost 2 years ago!), we planned on improving the Construct Arcade VR Hub.
We envision the VR Hub to be an inviting “home base”, which you return to whenever you switch between games. A place that one day may even be customizable—to make it your own.
Today, we are super excited to show you our first steps towards that: huge visual improvements and new underlying technology.
The VR Hub is where you find what to play next. You return to it after every game! This means that with the help of Wonderleap we can place advertisement in form of a non-intrusive poster there.
Monetization allows us to continue working on Construct Arcade and put more of our time and effort into the platform, improving your experience and to bring you more games.
If you you’d like to monetize your game, find us on the Construct Arcade Discord Server.
The initial version was already pretty great! We even used light baking for the first time. Back then our bakes with Blender’s Cycles were really noisy, especially because the texture resolution was so low that the noise was extremely apparent.
Now with Basis Universal compressed textures, we can have very high resolution textures with low file sizes.
Our new scene has radically higher texture resolutions and we spent way more time on baking the lighting in Blender to reduce the noise dramatically.
This gives us visual quality more comparable to Mozilla’s Hello WebXR. Check out their blog post “Visual Development in Hello WebXR!”.
The Construct Arcade VR Hub is now powered by our WebXR focused game engine that we are building to make WebXR development more accessible to anyone. We will share more info on it soon, so keep an eye out for that on Discord and Twitter.
What we finally release to you today is a great first step for the VR Hub. It is still far away from our vision, though. We’re already working on the next version.
We really hope you like the new VR Hub.
Best, Jonathan from Construct Arcade.
