Today we celebrate the second anniversary of Construct Arcade, and we do this with two big announcements: Construct Arcade accounts and not one, but two new games!
Construct Arcade Accounts
No matter how much fun a game is, beating its highscore immediately multiplies this fun manifold. Therefore I am incredibly happy to be able to announce that Construct Arcade now sports an account system, that allows you to climb that leaderboard of your favorite game. Just click on “Login” in the top right of the website, log in using Facebook (in the future we will support other means of authentication as well!), set your username (you can change it later at any time) and jump into your favorite game Barista Express to conquer the leaderboard!
Most Vhite Rabbit games will soon have the Construct Leaderboard, and other developers can include it easily using our brand new Construct Arcade SDK. This SDK allows developers to either use the provided leaderboard-component or implement their own and let us manage the accounts and scores.
New Games: Exit & Ned Snow
This year’s JS13K competition was incredible! It astonishes me every time how much the talented and skilled developers can achieve with just 13kB. I find it especially mind-blowing if you can’t even tell that the game is that efficient. Therefore I am very proud that the winner as well as the third place are now available on Construct Arcade!
In the strategy game Exit, you have to build a path for your tiny friends to escape. Playable on every VR headset as well as desktop and mobile it is easy to understand but hard to master. Can you beat all levels?
Are you up for a whole new experience of WebXR? Then sneak through the prison from a dystopian future and try to rescue Ned Snow! If you are a Coil subscriber this game has special rewards for you.
Two years ago today Construct Arcade went live, back when WebXR was only WebVR and game-breaking API changes were regular. Of the original four games by Vhite Rabbit (Barrels, VR Toyroom, WebVR Pong and QUAK), two are still among the now 24 games! It was an incredible journey so far, but we are just getting started.
The original idea to provide a single place that offers everything the web can offer in terms of VR-gaming is still at the center of Construct Arcade. We are constantly looking for new games to join the family and are thankful for suggestions! Head over to Discord or send us a message on Twitter if you know about a game we should add or want your own game published.
Back in 2018 this site was nothing more than a game collection, but today it provides a service to the VR-gaming and the VR-development community. Gamers can jump into a wide variety of games without jumping between dozens of websites. You don’t have to sift through broken games to find the gems, and you don’t need to think about how to find them again later. A simple bookmark to Construct Arcade is your portal to trouble-free casual gaming. And we are constantly working on expanding and smoothing this experience, including the expansion of the Construct Arcade Hub, the single login for all games, and many things I cannot disclose in detail yet. But let me drop some tasty keywords for future features: multiplayer, your own home base (hub), cross-game avatars and even offline gaming.
Over the course of the two years we also expanded how we can support developers. The biggest advantage of publishing on Construct Arcade is obviously to reach more users. You want your games to be played and our user base is steadily growing. Our record launch landed almost 10,000 sessions in its first week! But we also actively support developers, may it be by collaborating with companies like Wonderleap or commissioning cool logos like we did for Don’t Leave ‘em Haning and Exit.
The latest addition to our services is the Constract Arcade SDK that makes it easy for you to add a competitive element to your game without reinventing the wheel.
Want to know what else we can offer you and what will come next? Head over to our Discord, we are looking forward to hearing from you!
Best, Ferry from Construct Arcade.
